My work is a vibrant dialogue between perception, embodiment, and emotion, exploring the dynamic relationship between artist, artwork, and viewer.
Rooted in action painting, my intuitive process captures movement and energy, recording moments in time and space through bold marks and gestures.
Using acrylic and oil paints, I layer color, texture, and form to create large-scale pieces that evoke the emotive essence of nature.
Influenced by music, poetry, and shifting landscapes, each painting transforms internal experiences into tangible expressions, inviting connection and introspection.
My work celebrates the richness of sensory experience and the interplay between creation and perception, offering a journey into the depths of expression and discovery.
Janis Gosbee is a painter of emotive space, creating dynamic and evocative abstract landscapes that capture the essence of nature's moments.
Based in the Pacific Northwest, she draws inspiration from the region's diverse and stunning scenery, particularly its dense forests, rugged coastlines, and tranquil islands.
Gosbee's concept of emotive space involves translating the raw energy and nuanced details of her surroundings into abstract forms. Her paintings capture transient emotions through layers of color, texture, and form, deeply connecting with the emotional and sensory experiences of the natural world. Her work is intuitive and spontaneous, transforming her internal experiences into shared, tangible expressions that resonate on a deeply human level.
With over thirty years of design and artistic experience, Gosbee holds a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba. Her artistic practice seamlessly integrates her passion for visual arts and art history, allowing her to create works that resonate with authenticity and emotional depth.
As an exhibiting member with The Federation of Canadian Artists, she recently won first place in the Arrowsmith Chapters 2024 Spring Exhibition.
Her work can be viewed at the Tofino Contemporary Gallery of Art and her studios in Vancouver and Deep Bay on Vancouver Island.
